So, went to see Absent Friends.
Hmmmm.
Didn't actually enjoy it very much.
The acting was really off putting, so 'stagey', in fact it was like watching children act. I felt no real emotion coming from any of the characters for a long time. They were just reciting their lines and I didn't believe them at all.
The actors I found especially jarring were IT Crowd woman and Eastenders woman. They started the play together and it seemed like they couldn't be bothered (is it towards the end of the run? Maybe they are bored stiff of it and can't wait for the run to be over, well that is how it came across to me). For some reason Eastenders woman does a highly annoying voice. That right pissed me off.
The man with the beard was one of the better actors, he added much needed energy into the play but again his acting et me down, he was required to act as though he never sat down and had figity limbs, I accept it is hard to act the jitters but he forgot several times to have a boingy leg etc...
Reece also injected a lot of energy and finally some comedy (the laughs before hand didn't get even a smile from me, I just felt sad). Sadly I do think he was over the top and at several points he fell back on 'old' mannerisms and character traits that we have seen before.
So disappointed with it.
I'd had a couple of drinks before hand and met up with Sarah, Chez, Tara & hubby o it wasn't as if I was in a bad mood. I just didn't like it and wouldn't recommend it (though it wasn't AWFUL like Tennantless Hamlet).
I was hoping for something like Abigail's Party and maybe that is why it fell flat. Abigail's Party is brilliant, this is merely a pale imitation.
Afterwards (in the pub) we saw Reece.
We didn't rape his feet.
