 I did a quick Google search of "Morgan Freeman Hobbit," 'cause if *we've* thought of it, no doubt someone else has, too. No images, but plenty of places that reported the wrong Freeman being cast as Bilbo, and others where people were responding with "Whyyyyyyy?" and "I about fell out of my chair, but then realized they meant 'Martin Freeman'". Hahhahahahahahha!

Can you hear Morgan narrating? "One ring to rule them all...."

EDIT:

Found one!

If there's one thing you can count on, it's useless journos. ;)

Here's the latest batch, again broken into several posts and very out of order. Enjoy!

I am a little sad about the product placement. I wouldn't expect that with such a quality programme or even from anything from the UK. I didn't think it happened here really. Perhaps I am too inattentive to notice. There was talk about bringing in some sort of warning when there was going to be placement. Wonder what happened about that.

Anyway, thanks. Especially loved the Moriarty in crown and throne one. :D

Really? I'm sure I've come across product placement in British TV loads of times before. Heck, any time anyone mentions a brand name, it's bound to be product placement (or said show risks being sued). I actually liked the subtlety of the iphone adds. That's why I was laughing that I even noticed them. I hate when they're all obvious and you can tell the director was sitting in the background yelling (or thinking very loudly), "Label to camera! Label to camera!"

It used to be frowned upon but now it's all go on ITV (and probably the other commercial channels).
If it's made a big deal of it annoys me and brings me out of the program whilst I grumble and vow NOT to buy the advertised product, if it's subtle it;'s fine.
In programs like Eastenders I'd find people asking for "A pint of lager please Peggy" far more annoying than "A pint of Carling please Peggy". It has to be realistic.

Or just make up brands, that is much more fun.

I think sometimes in the UK it's a little less obvious but it is there without a doubt. There was some awful product placement in an episode of Fringe I watched the other week. Was so awful I paused it to laugh.

The phone stuff I don't mind so much. Besides I am usually so wrapped up in the story I may not notice enough for it to bother me.

I feel the same way you two do. After all, it's not called show BUSINESS because there's no money involved. It costs money to make TV and movies, and if product placement helps that happen, by all means. Just, please, be subtle about it. I'm WAY more likely to buy whatever they're advertising if I don't *feel* like I'm being marketed to. If I see a giant billboard for the ipad outside the window, for example, I'm going to turn my nose up. However, if I see Sherlock quietly use one for something really oresome, then there's every chance I'll want to run out and buy one just to be more like him.
