(I love the guy asking the questions, he is Mr Plinkett who does truly hilarious and very very detailed critiques of shit films - and also some films I don't mind. When I say detailed we are talking hours. And hours. His reviews of Star Wars are probably as long as the films themselves. But he is fab.)
I have just come back from the cinema, I saw Killer Joe.
I had seen the trailer who I was at the cinema watching Moonlight Kingdom and I thought it looked excellent.
I did enjoy it, but some parts had me thinking WHUT?!
The acting was fantastic all round, Matthew McConaughey haas never been someone I liked watching, to me he was just in films to be a tall blond hunk, he always seemed a bit of a jerk. Now this film hasn't turned me into a fan but it did show that he can act
(he also wears rapist gloves and if I looked at the gloves I felt happy in my Lady garden but ignored his face).
The huh? bits were: Someone is beaten up, his face afterwards looks like a child had got hold of their Mum's make up and decided huge circles of pruple on a cheek and a red line cross the head in lipstick = good make up. Um... no. I could have done better in 5 minutes, if you watch then you will agree, it was piss poor and distracting.
Another part is that the trailer gives away almost all of the plot and it annoyed me, this is happening more and more with modern films and television. I am trying so hard not to read plots and stuff now and it is hard work.
Take the trailer for the new Batman film. Comic Book fans know Bane breaks Batman's back but why should everyone need to know this? Yet the trailer tells us that Bane is in the film, that he beats Batman and lots of stuff gets blown up. A trailer should set up the film not have plot details for a good 2/3 of the film.
Also, social media like Twitter & Facebook lead to spoilers, I think it is high tide films were released ont he same day across countries because someone is always going to end up overhearing/reading someone else giving away spoilers.
Supernatural on Facebook told me a HUGE spoiler and I went ARGGGG cos I didn't wanna know that at all. So then I have to hide them and then miss other stuff like the possibility of Jensen needing a bed to stay in on a random trip to SW London.
ANYWAY. The 'twist' in Killer Joe is pointed towards in the trailer so if you want to see a good film about a hitman being hired by some dumb rednecks then go see it, just don't watch the trailer.
