Ok, I'm going to have my weekly work rant here! Got in this morning at 6.30am, opened emails to find one from boss to all Unit Managers. We are expected to attend a 'Unit Manager's Conference' on the 13th May. The email ended in PS. We know this is a Saturday. There will be no overtime payments, no lunch provided and minimal expenses (11p per mile), and it's in Coventry. This got right up my nose as a) Coventry is about and hour and a half away,There was no requesting to do it on a Saturday, we were told.By Friday my contracted hours are MORE than done, why should I go unpaid to a meeting on a weekend when it's NOT in my working week?Plus I think it's the thin end of the wedge. If people go it will set a precedent.

I think it's a damn cheek, and the two other unit managers who called me were ranting. I sent back a curt reply say,'No, I'm not attending on a saturday'.

My Regional Manager hasn't replied, because I guess he's got my pissed off vibe. If he does he really is going to get it.

I do at least two people's work, I've not had a holiday since January 2009, I keep getting extra pressures on a weekly basis, The unit is much busier then it's ever been, I start an hour earlier than I should, I'm often an hour to 90 minutes later finishing, I ALWAYS miss my lunch break, which I'm docked half an hour for,I got no overtime for those extra hours, but I have to do them to get the job done, so I'm buggered if i'm going to Coventry on a bloody Saturday to hear all that old guff.

And breath out.... ;)

Good for you, telling them you won't go, Pozza! Surely it's illegal for them to even suggest it! I hope you're documenting all the overtime, missed lunch, no holidays, etc. in case it ever comes to the point where you need to use it. I hope not, but better to have evidence of your overwork than not.

Ffs Paul. They are taking the p*ss arent they. Write everything down as VL says and stick to your guns. They cant force you. Hell if they moan say you have plans like a wedding to go to. At the very last minute you can say you are sick. They cant make you prove it with a doctor's line as it isn't working hours. It sounds completely illegal o me.

Paul, you're not going to like what I have to say but it needs to be said.
You have put yourself in this position.
You accept the crap, you roll over and accept it so of course they are going to take the piss.
No holiday in 2 years? Sadly it is your fault. If it was me I'd leave my job and find something else. But when you look for other jobs there is always a reason why not to take it. The world is in a heap of crap right now and to even be offered a job is rare so we all have to compromise on our ideals.
But you have accepted it for 5 years now.
And then you have a massive online rant and we tell you to stand up for yourself but you never do.
There isn't anymore advice we can offer you and I'm sorry :(

I have a note thanks She & LA, of all the hours etc extra I've done and have been trying to arrange an appointment with the boss for weeks (since before Christmas), but seems to be giving me a wide berth. He will have to come eventually and I'll have him. I suppose I could walk away and get something paid less, but why should I? I've worked bloody hard to get to this stage.

Anyway thanks for your support ladies!

Mildly annoying: The fact that the forum won't let you reply to a thread if someone else has replied since you started writing yours. Have you guys noticed this? Is that a new thing? Or is it because things were so slow for a while that I never realized it did that? I've lost a couple of posts that way 'cause the only way to post is to go back to the main thread and hit "reply" again.

I've not noticed that but will keep my eye out for it. As a rule of thumb I tend to copy large posts before I hit submit. A habit I picked up due to being not that quickest of typist and having a shitty laptop.

Smaaaart. I often compose in word to avoid potential loss, but when it's short stuff I don't always.

Ohhh it just happened to me! It gave me a preview option, I'm assuming so I could see the post which had been added, I then just hit submit again and it posted it ok.

Awww, I'm sorry. Have you seen a doctor? Maybe there's something they can give you. :/

Funny, it just keeps dumping me onto the preview page, no matter how many times I hit "submit". Or maybe it's just that more and more posts were coming in. Could be a coincidence.

I so rarely go to the doctor that the idea scares me. How pathetic is a doctor phobia? (I blame Matt Smith  )
I am hoping that wine will help. My Dad helpfully suggested it might be ebola. HA.
Pissed off cos my Dad has been in India for almost a year and now I feel too lousy to see him this week. HUMPHF.
