Hehe, get them in on the dressing up early. Brilliant! :D

By the way, the train tickets are now on sale - both ways, though it's cheapest to get two singles. They only appeared on the site this morning, so still lots of cheap tickets left. The cheapest is £16.50 for a single (thoguh you can get discounts on that if you have a railcard of some kind), though it seems to be a bit more expensive travelling back on Sunday than any other day. http://www.eastcoast.co.uk

I booked for the 10am train on Friday 26 March, which gets into Edinburgh soon after 2pm. I thought that would make it possible to visit the Royal College of Surgeons and have a look at all the Burke & Hare stuff (and mah husband Robert Liston's anatomical specimens, naturally). The museum is only open weekdays til 4pm, so if people can make it by mid-afternoon (and those in Edinburgh can get the afternoon off work) I'll contact them and ask about group visits. Assuming everyone wants to go, of course (I've been before but am always keen to go back there!).

Agh sheeeeet don't tell me the train companies are being bastards?!

Are you sure they're not just being a bit slow? Might have cocked up a bit because of the weather. I've seen tickets as cheap as £12 single for trains so god I hope they sort out their act. I was hoping to book middle of the month...

If not, looking like two separate coach journeys, 12 hours *gulp*

I looked just after you posted Katie & I could book a £16.50 outward journey & a £24.50 back.
Try again xx

I just looked, and there still seem to be £16.50 trains for the 10am one that I booked. The Sunday is slightly more problematic, but the cheapest ticket is available at 9:30am and 7pm (£24.50). Would you like me to book something for you? I can't work out why it's not working when you go on it. :(

CT, I would book trains as soon as possible. When I tried to go by train to Edinburgh before, the trains sold out within a week and went really expensive, and I had to get an overnight coach both ways,,, Eek!

Eek cheers for forewarning me RG,

It's annoying because I have to wait to be paid and can't do anything until then, I just have to keep fingers crossed there are some reasonable seats left once I do get paid. I don't mind doing the overnight east coast train service either, but am not sure whether that's more/less expensive.

Otherwise it'll be the coach! I'm not actually too fussed by long coach journeys, I'll just buy up a couple of papers, take work with me, and some decent reading.

By the way, I decided yesterday that since there was much talk of ghost tours and bodysnatchers and the like, I would like at some point to dress up as a Resurrectionist. Namely Ben Crouch, leader of the Borough Boys, who I think did head up to Scotland at one point to do a bit of bodysnatching with Robert Liston.

"Ben Crouch, the leader of the gang, was the son of a carpenter, who worked at Guy's
Hospital. He was a tall, powerful, athletic man, with coarse features, marked with the
small-pox, and was well known as a prize-fighter. He used to dress in very good
clothes, and wore a profusion of gold rings, and had a large bunch of seals dangling at
his fob."

I hope this is not too random... :D
