Basically Mark 'pulled the plug' because the BBC wanted to water down the character. And there were a few things he wasn't happy about so didn't want it to be spoiled.

I can't remember what he said about Jean Marsh, it was something to do with working with her. I'm sure one of the others will remember.

Please post your pic, I'd love to see it :)

i see , Crooked House sounds intriguing , is mark in it at all ?
He was q. chatty in Manchester though it was a shame there wasn't a talk like some of the other places :(
I took three books to be signed ( wasn't sure if that was too many but then i saw someone behind me with five so thought sod it lol) a friend who wasn't with me wanted two copies signing so i told him her name and said she would've come but she was too busy watching the new james bond so he was like " bad choice " and asked me if i'd seen it , he asked down the queue as well bless him and said he didn't reccommend it , i'm guessing he must be a big fan . He said it wasn't as good as he thought it would be , it was very different to the others and also quite short. I pointed out that they don't have anymore sexist quips anymore like the ones from roger moore(i love watching roger's just for the comedy value !hehe) and he agreed and said that's what he missed when watching the new ones. I thought i'd try and get in a Doctor Who question what with David Tennant quitting soon and said my friend wanted to know if he would be the next Doctor Who , he paused a bit and replied with " i can't i've got a beard" lol
Managed to tell him how much i enjoyed his first two books and that i was looking forward to the next which he seemed pleased about . I asked him if he was an old man in this so he said " ah yes but there's a clue on the cover" and picked it up and started turning it round to show old lucifer and young lucifer with a big grin on his face which was q. cute.
I tried to wish him a good xmas before i left but he thought it was a bit previous he was like " not yet , it's only november !" lol.
Will try and put up the pic but not really sure how :?

I can help you with posting the pic if you like :)

Sounds like a good talk!
I've not seen the new Bond, he didn't mention it but then no one ask him at ours.

He talked a bit about Sherlock Holmes & Conon Doyle. Gosh I've forgotten a lot of what he said already!
Why does that always happen!

SOunds great Tara!

As for the Jean Marsh comment - yes it was about Crooked House and being a big fan of her work. Hence she must be his friend etc.

As well as Conan Doyle, he discussed Dennis Wheatley occult thrillers as literary influence for his writing - which I remember because my folks have a whole load of them back home with original 70s garish hardcovers. Lots of cheesy skulls and candelabras - I'm surprised he didn't write Blood on Satan's Claw cos that is right up his alley.

Other writing mentioned included John Buchan's 39 Steps and the Flashman novels.
